Looking back there were many times in my life when I feel I could have benefited from the guidance and support of a life coach. Especially when I was in my early 20s I really didn’t know myself or understand why my life wasn’t “working”, why my experience of life was not fulfilling. I wasn’t who I wanted to be and didn’t know how to get there. Self awareness comes with time and often through difficult lessons but it does come. The many issues and challenges I have experienced in life were not always welcome at the time but now I am grateful for them for they have taught me about myself.
In hindsight it is easy to see I spent a lot of time spinning my wheels and chasing my own tail; I was fighting and blocking myself because I didn’t understand myself. I didn’t see how who I thought I was made it difficult for me to become who I truly wanted to be. To have had a coach at these times would have saved me time and accelerated my journey towards greater self awareness and understanding. But my journey has been what it has been for a reason. This path has brought me the understanding that we all struggle with ourselves at certain times in our lives and that seeking assistance with difficult or significant life changes can be an empowering and practical choice.
My own progress along the road to self knowledge has taught me to have compassion and patience for myself and therefore for others. I do not perceive someone seeking guidance as lost but as actually ready to make an empowering leap forwards on their life path. For this reason I came to the realization that supporting others as they grow and deepen in self awareness is something I am deeply passionate about. And so, as a coach, sharing in another person’s journey towards greater freedom, fulfillment and joy truly feels like a privilege and a gift.
